Those things are a pain the behind...

I find that prying them up with 2 screwdrivers to work best - one on each side. Once it's up a little, a pair of needle-nose pliers is good to grab the base of the plastic fastener.

If these are the type that have the center insert... The center piece acts like a screw - it "should" unscrew and then just pull the surrounding base piece out.

When installing, simply insert the base, and then just push the center piece back in - no need for screwing it in.

How does one change the license plate bulbs on a 2000 Mercedes CLK430?

Found it myself: Remove the six retaining pins that hold the trunk liner to the lid. Remove the center bolt that fastens the light assembly to the trunk lid. From the exterior, unscrew the two screws that fasten the light assembly to the lid. Squeeze the plastic lens clip and remove the lamp assembly. Remove the two electrical leads so that the bulb can be replaced. Reverse the procedure to re-assemble. The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes.

How can I remove magnetic charge in pins?

To remove magnetic charge from pins, you can rub them against a magnet in the opposite direction to demagnetize them. Another method is to heat the pins with a flame and then allow them to cool slowly, which can also remove any magnetic charge they may have acquired.
