To remove the standard transmission from a 1996 GMC Sonoma, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the Transmission Fluid. Then, support the vehicle securely on jack stands and remove the driveshaft, exhaust components, and any connected components such as the shift linkage and wiring. Next, unbolt the transmission from the engine, ensuring to remove the bellhousing bolts, and finally, use a transmission jack to carefully lower and remove the transmission from the vehicle. Always consult a repair manual for specific torque specs and detailed procedures.
NO. They are different.
Need to remove transmission
Remove the transmission.
The fluid capacity of a 1996 GMC Sonoma manual transmission is approximately 4 quarts (or about 3.8 liters) when filled with the appropriate transmission fluid. It's important to use the recommended fluid type, which is typically GM Synchromesh or an equivalent. Always check the owner's manual for specific recommendations and to ensure proper maintenance.
17mm (works for a 1998)
i have a 91 sonoma. For advice it was easiest to unbolt the the flywheel/flexplate cover. this allows you to wiggle the starter towards the front of the truck and then lower it down. ( you do not need to remove the cover; just move it out of the way.
It is bolted into the transmission valve body. You will have to remove the transmission pan to get to them.
It can come with either one. But the standard is an automatic transmission.
fold seat down, then unbolt the frame of the seat, and remove them. it is a really simple process.
The automatic transmission does not have a drain. You remove the pan to drain.
the transmission dipstick tube is bolted (1bolt) to the left rear of the transmission bell housing. Remove bolt and pull up on the dipstick housing to remove it from the transmission fluid pan.
Hey dude, you did not specify if it is automatic or standard transmission. If it is Manual Transmission, it is located on top of the transmission.
