Started motors are located near the "Bell housing" and are connected to the block with 2 to 3 bolts. You will see the bell housing under the car because it is were the transmission is connected to. The starter motor is either on the right or left side. There are gears inside the starter that get thrown forward and engage the flywheel (inside bell housing), thus cranking the motor over to start. To remove the starter motor from a Rover 75 2.5 V6, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. disconnect battery. from underneath disconnect solenoid wire and battery cable from starter solenoid. remove starter motor bolts. remove starter motor. installation is the reverse but be sure to place the starter shim between the starter motor and the engine or you will get noise during starts.

To remove the starter motor, disconnect the battery first. Take a picture, if possible, so that the new starter can be put back in place the same as the old one was. Disconnect the wires and remove the starter bolts. Remove the starter and replace with a new one. Hook up the wires and the battery.

You will need to loosen the motor mount on the side of the starter to jack up the motor slightly to remove the starter after removing the bolts that hold the starter on to the engine. Remove all wires from starter also.
