Answer
First you have to relieve the spring pressure off the strut. Ounce the spring pressure is off remove th lower balljoint off the knuckle this is connected to the lower control arm.
The strut goes through the control arm remove the nut on the end (21 mm) then go to the front of the car to the other end of the strut this is bigger nut loosen that one.
Push the control arm towards the back of the car this will free the control arm from the strut.then pull the strut out of the front grommet.
You have to replace the strut rod bushing there are two in each strut rod inner and outer bushing then you could tight them again. the one you have is already shrink.
The front hub has to be removed , the bearings are pressed in .This should be done at a local Auto shop . you must remove the wheel , the tie rod and the strut , what i did was remove the whole strut assembly from the top and remove the bottom tie rod and I sent the whole thing into the shop to get the bearings pressed in , when it comes back simply reverse the procedure , be sure to check the tie rods before completing installation of strut
Remove wheel at that side. Loosen jamb nut (on inner tie rod.) Remove cotter pin, outer tie rod to strut, if equipped. Remove nut, outer tie rod to strut just a bit. If a ball joint separator (separator fork) of suitable size is available, separate tie rod end from strut using said fork, otherwise repeatedly strike strut (sharply) near tie rod with a large (5 lbs. to 20 lbs.) hammer until it comes free. Turn the outer tie rod end counterclockwise until it comes out of the car. Put a bit of wheel bearing grease on the threads of the inner tie rod end. Screw outer tie rod onto inner tie rod until it contacts jamb nut; then, back off until orientation is correct to insert into strut. Tighten nut. If equipped, install cotter pin. Install wheel. Perform wheel alignment.
The durelastic rod. its new. srry if i didnt spell durelastic right. hope you have fun with your ford(:
These are the things that you should have: Screwdriver Hood Prop Trunk Strut And these are some general steps: 1. Open the trunk. 2. Prop open the trunk 3. Remove the retainer bolts from the top and unscrew lower end of the old shocks. 4. Remove the weak trunk strut 5. Install the new strut. Replacing struts in pairs is recommended. 6. Remove prop rod. 7. Inspect and test the trunk to verify the trunk strut repair.
A strut is a rod or bar designed to resist compression.
Depending on which ones (inside, outside). Inside tie rod ends: slide back dust cover to expose the tie rod end. you will see a spot to place a wrench on the rack side. This will keep you from (twisting) damaging the rack and pinion unit while removing the tie rod end. Holding the rack with your wrench remove the tie rod end with a separate tool. Now for the outside tie rod end: With the wheel off, remove the cotter key from the tie rod bolt. Remove the nut that holds it to the strut. With a tie rod removal tool (pickle fork) wedge the tool between the tie rod end and the strut and pound the end of the tool with a hammer. This will properly remove the tie rod end from the strut. However, if you do not have a "pickle fork" you can use you hammer to drive the tie rod end out from underneath. I do not recommend you use a hammer on a good tie end. Also, count how many turns it takes to remove the tie rod end. Use this number of turns when replacing with the new one. This will @ least get you close to the original spot of the old one makking it safe to drive to get an immediate wheel alignment.
you will need spring compressers they will come in different styles this is a hazardous task.you will have 2,3 or 4 nuts or bolts on top of the strut tower there will be a cap over a nut in the center of tower(this is the nut that holds the spring compressed DO NOT REMOVE THIS YET) lift car where wheel is off the ground you will remove the upper strut nuts/bolts and there will be 2 bolts attaching the strut to the steering knuckle on the bottom remove them and remove the castle nut on outer tie rod end tie rod end separator is usful place strut in spring compressor and compress this is when you remove the center nut release pressure on spring the reverse process to reassemble CAUTION MOST STRUT SPRNGS HAVE ABOUT 1500 PSI SO BE CAREFUL you will need to get a front end alignment after this change the rear will be very simalar with out tierod end and smaller no alignment willbe needed
Yes You'll need to remove the steering knuckle from the strut, ball joint, tie rod, and the driveshaft. Take the knuckle to a workbench and press out the rotor flange, remove the C-clip and press out the bearing the reassemble in reverse Will take about 2 hours for someone inexperienced
remove wheel, brake caliper and disc (be sure to clamp brake line) .Remove lower ball joint and tie rod end and leave the lower componants hanging.Remove the complete strut assembly from the strut tower in the engine bay. Once assy is remove use spring compressors to compmress spring and install sprong and upper plastic ring and lower plastic rubber. These things start out pretty low so it also advised to fit strut mats on the new dampers aswell. You will see why when you remove your old struts.
Remove two lower strut bolts holding bottom of strut to the spindle. Remove the bolt holding the brake flex hose to the strut Some model years have the outer tie rod attached to the housing, separate the tie rod from the strut if you have to (can't remember on a 1992) Remove the 3 top nuts in the engine compartment ond the whole assembly will come out Put the strut in a spring compressor and compress the spring Undo the top center nut in the center of the upper mount/bearing plate The strut will fall out of the spring. Extend the piston fulley on the new strut and slide it back into the mount/ spring assembly Tighten the top nut in the center of the upper mount (new one comes with new strut) Make sure the spring is in the correct position when you put it back together and reverse the instructions to install. You will need an alignment!! Check the upper mount bearing before reusing
it is suppose to release automatically as soon as you put it in gear. if not look above the pedal there is a small rod that you can push forward. good luck.
