You need to check the power and ground at the fuel tank. If that is okay the float is most likely bad.
The gauge, wiring or sending unit is bad.
The problem is most likely the sending unit, not the gauge itself. The sending unit would have to be replaced.

i have a 1990 ford ranger and my fule gauge always reads full, why?
The floater inside your pump is sticking. You will have to replace your fuel pump in order to fix this problem.
You should immediately take it to your Chevy dealer and have it repaired. Working on the SRS can be dangerous and is not a DIY repair. It very well may be repaired under warranty.
