You must first remove the alternator, Then cut the plastic housing or simply break it away if it insn't aready shattered, you really don't need it anyway. There are 5 or 6 1/4 " self tapping screws securing it to the fire wall, once screws are removed simly pull out the blower & replace it with new one. Its a 3 hour job and you must use common sense as some wiring connectors have to be disconnected to access some bolts "like behind the alternator". Good luck!
The blower rheostat on a 93 Pontiac Grand Am is located inside the engine bay, just to the right of the blower fan housing. It is almost directly behind the trans dipstick. It isn't that hard to replace.

Check your fuse box for a blown fuse and also check your connections at the blower motor.

To replace the blower motor in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, first disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Remove the passenger side lower dashboard trim panel for access, then disconnect the wiring harness from the blower motor. Unscrew and remove the old blower motor from its housing, and then install the new motor by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the dashboard trim and reconnecting the battery.
On the bottom of the dash on the passenger side remove the black cover then remove the bolts on the blower and disconnect the wire. Reverse above to install.

Usually against the passenger firewall
i broke down and paid to have this fixed. My mechanic said this is a fairly common problem on the older grand prixs. He had to replace the relay as well as the blower motor, total cost was $400.
