its hard you have to take the whole dash out to reach it i had a camaro and it was b****
I have a 81 Z28 Camaro, my heater hoses were behind passenger side fender by firewall. I would say start there, you might want to take off passenger side fender to get to it easier. The heater core comes from inside the car under the glove box.
To change the heater core in an '81 Oldsmobile Toronado, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the coolant from the radiator. Remove the dashboard and the HVAC housing to access the heater core, which is typically located behind the firewall. Disconnect the heater core hoses from the engine compartment, remove the old heater core, and install the new one. Finally, reassemble the HVAC housing, reconnect the hoses, refill the coolant, and check for leaks.
I replaced my heater core in 1991 for my ford F100 I6 300. If I remember correctly , it was a tiresome job because you have to remove the black plastic housing under the hood; which has a lot of small nuts. If my memory serves me, the heater core is under the hood, inside the black plastic compartment. The core is immediately under the place where your heater core hoses route to the firewall. You should have an easy time finding it. good luck
The core will need to be replaced.Don't waste time trying to repair an old core.
im doing this myself right now and it is not an easy thing to do. essential you have to remove the glove box door, the glove box and then the heating ducts and behind that is the heater core box which runs along behind the console and on mine it is grounded through the heater core box which i do not beleive is factory and once you have that off you should have direct access to the heater core and at this point you have to drain all the anti freeze if you havent already and then you can remove the hoses un bolt it and put in the new one
Replacing a heater core in a car is very involved. You have to remove the whole dashboard. You first have to drain the coolant and disconnect the battery. Removing the front seat can make accessing under dash screws/nuts/connectors and removing the steering column.
