Find a good place to work. Turn off engine open hood. Top radiator hose leads to thermostat housing. Before starting to work let the engine cool down.
Once cool, remove the radiator cap .On the bottom of the radiator usually inside you should find a drain plug . Using a pair of pliers open this plug.
Use a clean drain pan so as not to lose too much antifreeze.
Follow top rad hose to thermostat housing, loosen clamps on the hose
at both ends. remove the hose from the housing. This is sometimes difficult so you may have to twist the hose or break the seal between
the hose and housing with a screwdriver be careful not to puncture the hose as you will be walking to the auto parts store for a new one.
This is where you will lose antifreeze when you disconnect the top hose. The thermostat housing usually has 2 bolts holding it in place, remove these bolts usually a 1/2 or 9/16 socket or wrench. The housing may be stuck in place and will have to be pried of. Once again be careful doing this as the housing may break and you will be going back to the parts store.
Once you have the housing off remember how the thermostat was inserted as the new one will go in the same way. Clean off the old gasket
with sandpaper, you can scrape it off carefully but will have to sand also.
Sand by hand only.
Insert new thermostat into housing, and place new gasket over that. A thin coat of grease will keep the gasket in place and make it easier to remove the next time.
Put housing in place and install bolts. Hand tighten bolts as far as possible then tighten slightly both sides evenly. Do not over tighten
as the housing will crack.
Reconnect the hose to the housing and the radiator and tighten the clamps. Close the drain plug on the bottom of the rad. Using a funnel
pour the antifreeze in the drain pan slowly back into the radiator.
Top up with the new antifreeze or you could just refill your system with the new antifreeze. If you bought premixed you should have no problem.
If you bought straight antifreeze it will have to mixed with water. Depending on where you live the mixture could run 50:50 or 60:40
antifreeze to water.
Start the car and let it run, turn on the heater full . Check for leaks
and add mixture as needed. Once you are satisfied that there are no leaks and fluid level is good, put back the radiator cap . Let the engine run
until it gets hot and check for leaks again. Recheck fluid level after about 2-3 days.
Very important ...if you have a dog , wash down where ever antifreeze spilled on the ground as dogs love the taste ( it is sweet ) but it will make the dog very ill or even cause the dog to die.
Follow the top radiator hose down to the water outlet; your stat is in there.
follow the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing on engine. Thermostat is located under the thermostat housing.
The thermostat for this car is located in the water pump housing from the lower radiator hose.
It's internal, inside the alternator.
where is the fuse box in a 1986 camaro
The thermostat is almost always located on the top of the engine block, usaully in front of the carberator. Unfortionately, sometimes it is located on the bottom the block
It is in the big water hose on the in side
Lower rear end of the engine
Replace it with the exact same temperature thermostat as the one you removed. Do not run the engine without a thermostat. The thermostat is required to keep the engine running at the optimum temperature that will give the best performance and mileage. If it is overheating running it without a thermostat is not the solution.
Is on the engine block on the upper water hose.
Its on the front of the Intake. Just follow the top radiator hose from the radiator the thermostat housing.
Take the top radiator hose loose from the top of the engine. The thermostat is under there. just pry it off with a screwdriver.
