To replace the transmission clutch on any stick shift vehicle, remove the engine and/or transmission.
The engine and transmission must be separated since the clutch is between them.
Pull the flywheel and have it resurfaced.
replace the flywheel, following recommended procedures.
Use a new pilot bushing/glan nut.
Replace the clutch disk using a NEW pressure plate assembly and be certain to align the disk using a pilot shaft.
Re-install the engine/transmission in the reverse order that you took it/them out.
No clutch cable... Saturns use a hydraulic clutch system for all manual transmissions.
if it is anything like my 97' Saturn Sl2. The engine must be dropped out to dismount the transmission.
It depends on where you live and where you get it done at. I payed $1,200 for a used transmission and clutch replacment the first time at about 120,000 miles, and $800 when i put in the second clutch at about 160,000 miles. I found out on the second clutch that downshifting to slow the car down is NOT a good idea, because the clutch fins are so thin on Saturns. Mine was a 94 SL2, sure do miss it....
Well, Generally speaking a Saturn Clutch is expensive, more than a Honda or Toyota.I own a 2000 Saturn SL2, had the clutched replaced about a month ago, for the whole cluthing assembly it cost me $945 parts and labor. labor took about 3 days. The mechanic said that saturns don't have a bleed valve for the clutch lines so they had some problems with it. but the got er' done
All Saturns were fuel injected.
assuming they have the same lug pattern 4 or 5 they are going to be the same width and height All saturns from the beginning of saturns until at least 1998, have the same wheel bolt pattern. AFTER 1998 I am not sure.
To replace the clutch master cylinder in a 1995 Saturn SL2, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the clutch fluid reservoir cap. Then, locate the master cylinder, disconnect the hydraulic lines, and unbolt it from the firewall. Install the new master cylinder by reversing the removal steps, ensuring to properly bleed the clutch system to eliminate any air. Finally, check fluid levels and reconnect the battery.
saturns fuses for the cars are located behind the battery
I have been told that the 1997 SL2 has no clutch adjustment. It is self adjusting until it can't adjust further, then it needs replacing. This info comes from a trusted mechanic.
