I can't recall the exact process for removal of the wheel bearing. I did several on the front and I doubt the rear is much different. As I remember it, it was pretty simple and I did not need a slide hammer. I believe it is simply the removal of the nut, the removal of several studs from the backside and it slips right off. Don't forget to disconnect the ABS/traction system wiring connector on the backside. If you buy the part from the dealer it ran about $150, but after-market was $70. Replaced two on daughter's Aztec, one on mine. All-in-all not a bad job. It seems many people have had to replace one or more, but GM won't pay if you do it yourself.

You will need a 30mm socket for the spindle nut. Raise vehicle,remove tire,brake caliper. there is no need to remove brake pads. rotate caliper and pads off rotor. Remove caliper bracket and rotor. Remove the 3 bolts securing bearing to steering knuckle,engage from the rear of the bearing. requires a 15mm socket. You may need to turn steering wheel to the right and left to access bolts. Using a sledge hammer knock off wheel bearing at flange. Do not worry if you see copper wire,it's part of ABS system built into wheel bearing,your new one will have it included. clean seat where wheel bearing was located. Pay attention to the position of ABS wire on new hub when reinstalling. put it back they way it came off!!!! Installation is reverse. I have done Two of these. The first time it took Two hours. The second 45 minutes. A word of advice! Replace both bearings at the same time. The other will not be far behind.
