chock wheels on vehicle u will need a good heavy duty air gun or a good solid socket with breaker bar now get under vehicle, remove rear U-Joint and lower drive shaft out of the way. next with a snug fitting socket remove the large nut , (pinion nut) that was hidden by the u-joint. then with a hammer knock the pinion yoke off remove bearing. replace with new bearing NOTE: check yoke for wear, you may need to use a speedy sleeve to repair damage. if it looks good you won't.
replace yoke replace washer and pinion nut, (always use a new pinion nut) tighten to specified torque replace drive shaft and U-JOINT, (now is a good time to put new u-joint in while you have it apart) finished
Depending on the vehicle, a diff bearing kit is a kit you can purchase that contains all the parts to freshen up a differential. This usually includes the pinion bearings and races, pinion bearing shims, pinion seal, pinion crush sleeve, pinion lock nut, carrier bearings and races, carrier bearing shims and a new gasket.
It's wore out, so now it loose and the bearing needs to be replaced O
you re rear axle i just replaced mine it probably the front pinion bearing
remove rear drive shaft from vehicle.remove large nut ( pinion nut) at front of diff, which is generally hidden when driveshaft is in place.with a bearing puller remove pinion bearing, replace with new one. install new pinion seal. reinstall pinion cover and pinion nut. tighten to specified torgue.reinstall driveshaft check diff oil for proper amount
To change a pinion bearing, first, remove the driveshaft and differential cover to access the differential assembly. Then, use a suitable puller to remove the pinion gear and bearing from the housing. Replace the old bearing with a new one, ensuring it's properly seated, and reassemble the components, including adjusting the pinion depth and backlash as needed. Finally, refill the differential with the appropriate lubricant and check for proper operation.
To replace the rear axle pinion bearing on an '84 GMC Vandura, first, safely lift and support the vehicle, then remove the driveshaft and any rear axle cover. Next, remove the pinion nut and yoke to access the pinion gear. Carefully pull out the pinion assembly, replace the old bearing with a new one, and reassemble by reversing the steps, ensuring proper torque on the pinion nut and checking the bearing preload. Always consult a repair manual for specific torque specifications and procedures.
If this helps the sailsbury axle of a cortina details are crownwheel and pinion backlash 0.004-0.008" pinion bearing preload 0.001-0.003" collapsible spacer length 0.453-0.461".
1. remove rear drive shaft.2.remove diff.cover.3.remove both axles.4.remove carrier case assy.5.remove drive shaft yoke.6.tap pinion gear out of housing with (brass hammer).7 remove pinion seal and front pinion bearing.8.rear pinion bearing well need pressed off & on the pinion gear.9.you need to use a punch drive the bearing race from housing both.
Rack/pinion doesn't have adjustments for wear. If it is bad, replacement is needed.
it helps you adjust whatever you need:(
to replace pinion bearing and seal you need to remove drive shaft.you then remove the pinion nut from pinion shaft. u usually need a pretty good rattle gun to remove this .then remove yoke from front of differential.u may need a puller but usuall tapping with hammer will loosen it. remove the bearing and replace with new one then install seal and replace cover and ypke. replace pinion nut, fill with oil.replace drive shaft
