The doors should lock then unlock, indicating the vehicle is in program mode. Press any button on the remote, and the doors should lock then unlock. The system should now be programmed and ready for use.

You don't. You have to maintain the factory radio in the car somewhere or the keyless entry will not work on 96-98 civics.
Call a dealer with the vin and have them check the sales codes.
Yes, but may be an option My '96 Ram Van has keyless entry. You posted in the Vans section, don't know if you have the truck, but in the vans, the keyless entry unit is behind the CD player (It also handles power locks so it[ll re-lock the doors if you had the back ones open)
To determine if your 1996 Tahoe has factory keyless entry, check for a keyless entry remote or fob that may have come with the vehicle. Additionally, look for a small receiver module, typically located near the driver's side under the dashboard or in the center console. You can also check the vehicle's owner's manual or contact a dealership with your VIN to confirm if keyless entry was included in your specific model. Lastly, try locking and unlocking the doors with the key fob or by using the lock button on the driver's door; if they respond, you likely have factory keyless entry.
The remote keyless entry control box on my '96 is behind the plastic cover underneath the dash just below the steering column.
let it be known that if you have stock keyless entry on a 96-98 civc ex that disconnecting the radio will disconnect the dome lights and your keyless entry. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THEM UNLESS you keep the old raio connectd and splice the new radio into the wires. go to installdr.com and they can help you
The dealer should have that information. Also it may be in the owners manual. If you don't have one, try MOTORLIT.COM
