Reprogram?? I don't know if you can reprogram the idle but there is a idle adjustment screw on my 91 right under the intake.... Try adjusting that
u might need a idle air control value
AnswerThere is no fast idle speed screw on a fuel injected motor. Check the Idle Air Control valve, the Throttle Position Sensor, and the Mass Airflow sensor before you go digging around with the ECM.first 91 has a 5.0 92 has a 4.6 there is a stop screw that can be adjusted but i don not recommend it i would try the above
the cold idle is controlled by the PCM ( power train control module) the computer of the car and idle is not adjustable.
check your air idle control valve
Open the hood of the car and find the idle air control valve. The valve is located on the Gran Marquis' throttle body. The idle air control is a cylinder with a wire connector plugged into it. If needed, refer to your repair manual for an exact diagram. On a 1996 Grand Marquis, the idle adjustment screw is typically located on the throttle body. It may be near the front of the engine, often near the throttle linkage. To access it, you might need to remove any air intake ducts or cover that obstructs the view. However, it's important to note that many modern vehicles, including the Grand Marquis, have electronic throttle controls, so there may not be a traditional idle adjustment screw.
Located on throttle body
To adjust the curb idle on a 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis, locate the idle speed adjustment screw on the throttle body. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Use a tachometer to measure the RPM, then turn the idle speed adjustment screw clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed, aiming for the recommended RPM specified in the owner's manual. Finally, recheck the idle speed after adjustments to ensure it’s within the correct range.
your loosing idle pressure check your vacume lines ans throttle sensor
Please be more specific ....what is an "idle air motor"...I have 25 years experience and have never heard of it???
This year had a central fuel injection with the idle speed on the side of the throttle body in the form of a D.C. motor with mechanical adjustments.
idle air control motor.
Idle speed motor defective. Also possible a vacuum leak.
Try adjusting the idle using the idle screw on the butterfly valve of the air intake. It might be that the idle is just set too high. If that doesn't work, try adjusting the timing. If that still doesn't work, try replacing the Throttle Position Sensor, located right above the throttle body.
