You cant set it manually, its electronically done by the computer so its always right. If you have a driveability problem suspect something else (fouled spark plugs, dirty injectors, clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator, low compression, etc), but if you're certain its the timing then varify the crank and camshaft position sensors are both working correctly. Also check the timing chain, if its worn enough to jump time and your camshaft is improperly syncronized to the crankshaft it won't run well (if at all).
how do you set the timing for a 1997 Chevy 350 5.7 engine
Computer controlled and not adjustable
8 degrees.
That requires an engine scanner.
The timing on that year engine is computer controlled. It requires an engine scanner to set the timing. YOU CAN NOT USE A TIMING LIGHT.
you cant set "timing" you have to have a scanner to set cam sensor to 0 +or-2
0 degress top dead center
trying to set base timing on a 97 Chevy c1500 with a 5.7 engine the wire to disconnect to set base timing is ?
maybe check for a worn CAM LOB.
what are the timing marks on a chev 305 motor for the year 1995.
How do you set the timing on a 2000 Chevy blazer (V6)
To set the timing on a 305 Chevy marine motor, first, ensure the engine is at operating temperature and turned off. Disconnect the timing connector to bypass the electronic control module, then use a timing light to check the timing mark on the harmonic balancer against the timing tab on the engine. Adjust the distributor by loosening the hold-down bolt and turning it until the timing light indicates the desired timing setting, typically around 8-12 degrees BTDC for a marine application. Finally, reconnect the timing connector and recheck the timing to ensure it remains accurate.
