The gap on the 351 Cleveland changes timing. Adjust the point gap until it is at 28-32 and begin timing then.

The timing degrees for a 1989 Ford Windsor 351 engine is generally set at 10-12 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) at idle. However, it's essential to check the specific service manual for your vehicle, as timing specifications can vary slightly based on emission controls and other factors. Always ensure proper timing adjustments are made with a timing light for optimal engine performance.
The correct setting on the timing for a 351 Interceptor Marine is not listed. It might be best to either purchase and downland a copy of the 351 Interceptor Marine manual online or purchase the manual from a boat dealer.

By advancing or retarding the spark.
It's usually 10 degrees bdtc
this one i know thru experience, and a long time to figure it out. but yes a 302 cam will work in a 351.but, u will need to time the engine to 302 timing specs, not to 351 timing specs the same applies if you put 351 cam in a 302
what timing are you trying to set? the cam timing or the ignition timing?
