Your belt is self tensioning. This is done by the tensioner which is a pulley looking thing in the belt path. You can tell it by it's smooth, shiny surface and by the fact that the back side of the belt contacts it. It's possible that the spring in the tensioner has worn out. I'm really not sure how big a job it is to replace that tensioner, but naturally, the belt will have to come off to do it. Beyond that, there will probably be some peripheral parts removal. Or not.

Another option is that you might need to adjust the tension a bit by adjusting your alternator. It has a bit of fore and aft adjustment and it's pretty obvious how that works.

I guess your belt may have stretched too, but I don't know that to be a common problem. If I were you, I'd consider replacing the belt. At that time you can push against the tensioner to see if it still has plenty of spring left in it or not.

How do you tighten the serpentine belt on a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire?

The serpentine belt tension in the Sunfires is self adjusting via the tensioner which is in the belt path. It's spring loaded against the belt. I guess the spring could be wearing out, but I rather doubt it on a car as new as yours. The only other alternative I can think of would be that the Alternator has come loose, but that more or less implies that a couple of bolts have fallen out of it. Why are you asking about the belt? Are you observing something abnormal?

You do not tighten a serpentine belt. It has a tensioner that keeps it at the correct tension. If it is loose, either the belt is worn and needs replacing or the tensioner is defective.
