Check the brake light switch, it's under the dashboard, connected to the brake pedal.

Just turn the key to on (second) position - where you see all the lights come on the dashboard and wait till the brake wear indicator light go off. If you replaced the tripped brake wear sensor, the light will go off in about 10-15 seconds...
There are several reasons why the dashboard brake light won't go off on a 2000 Mercedes ML430. One reason could be a short in the wiring system. If your light is off you should take your car into a mechanic to have them look at it.
Follow the brake pedal up behind the dash. The pedal arm ususally operates a button that turns on the lights when the pedal is pushed. The button could be stuck.
It will automatically go off when all the brake lights are in working order. Don't overlook the center brake light. :)
The red brake light indicates that the parking brake is on or that the brake fluid is low. Be sure to add the specified brake fluid if you add fluid. Also make sure that you don't allow any dirt to get into the brake fluid and don't overfill the brake fluid either.

To turn off the parking brake, locate the parking brake lever or button in your vehicle. If it's a lever, pull it slightly and then release it to disengage; if it's a button, simply press it to deactivate. Ensure that the vehicle is in the "Park" position if it's an automatic transmission, or in neutral for a manual, before releasing the brake. Always check that the parking brake indicator light turns off on your dashboard.
