Look in the trunk behind the door. Pull back the carpet and you will find an emergency release button.
On my 95 when you raise the first deck, there is a lever on the left side down in the foot section that you must pull to raise the backrest which locks into place after raising it. That same lever must be used to unlock the backrest and fold it down again. Ray G.
Drivers side by your left leg there is a lever that says pull for fuse box. How you open that is another story though

My 1998 Lexus LS400 has a small lever to pull that releases the trunk.
