This is going to depend on your mechanical ability as well as the car or truck in question. In short though, the transmission will have to be removed from the vehicle to install. If you are inclined enough to remove the transmission than the rear main seal isn't much harder at all.

NO it will not. That is BAD stuff to put in the engine oil. You need to check the PCV Valve and make sure it is working. If it is then you will need to replace the rear main seal.

How expensive is it to change a rear main seal on a 1995 Isuzu Trooper?

The seal itself should be around $20.00 or so. To change it is another story. You have to ripple the transmission & part of the exhaust. The rear main seal will be found in a plate mounted to the back of the engine. It will require the use of a special tool to put it back in. Definitely not a 1 day job.

Almost always leaking rear crankshaft seals are a result of worn crankshaft main bearings with too much clearance. Make it easy on yourself and pull the engine, turn it upside down, pull the oil pan, loosen the crankshaft, and put in a new set of main bearings, then replace the seal and put it all back together.

How do you replace rear main seal in 1996 Chevy 350?

I am asuming your talking about rear diffrental seal that is known to leak you need to take off all the bolts around it approx. like 15-20 when u do this the gear oil will leak out so get something under it to catch it once that's done put the new seal in and put all the bolts back and on the top usually facing the front of the truck there should be a "bolt" drain plug type thing remove that and filler up with gear oil replace drain plug bolt and u should be good to go Bruce Ross No!!!! Wrong. Rear main is the seal in the rear of your engine. If you have a manual transmission, you need to remove the clutch and it is right pretty much there. Same as automatic trans. The rear main is the seal between the transmission and engine. Shane

How do you replace the rear main seal on a 1995 Chevy Suburban?

You must first remove the transmission and fly-wheel. Then you will see the 1 piece seal on the crank shaft. Pry it out, it will pop out. Then install new seal in it's place. A seal driver is the best tool to use. Be sure you clean the area good, and put some oil on the crankshaft before sliding the seal over the crank.
