The speed sensor on a 2000 Mercury Village is found on the transmission of the vehicle. The sensor will be placed on top of the unit to read the rotations of the transaxle.

On a 1995 Ford Aerostar : If it is the 4.0L EFI V6 engine ( like my 1995 Ford EXPLORER ) it has an " O " ring for the thermostat , there is no gasket But , if it is the 3.0L V6 engine I believe a thermostat gasket is used
when the thermostat will not open when placed in a cup of boiling water
Locate the top radiator hose. Find where it connects to the engine, there is a cast-metal housing that the hose connects to. Remove the hose from the casting and the casting from the engine. Inside the housing is the thermostat. As you remove it, pay particular attention to the direction the thermostat is placed in the inlet side. Install the new thermostat and reassemble in the reverse order. It isn't necessary to get the replacement from a dealer, the thermostat itself is inexpensive when bought at an auto parts store.
When a thermometer bulb containing mercury is placed in hot water, the mercury inside expands, causing the level of mercury to rise. This expansion of mercury is used to measure the increase in temperature accurately.
There is no reason not to
Shouldn't be able to. If the thermostat is put in backwards, thethermostat housing will interfere with the thermostat. When placed in properly, the housing with install easily.
Gold is a higher density than Mercury so it will sink if placed into a container of mercury.
When wood is placed in mercury, nothing significant will happen as mercury is a relatively inert metal and will not react with the wood. The wood will simply float on the surface of the mercury due to the density difference between the two materials.
Yes, it is okay to run it for awhile like that. Keep in mind that the engine may not cool properly this way or may run abnormally warm. But it will run okay until a proper thermostat can be placed in it.
