This is incorrect. According to High Performance Pontiac Magazine February 1994 there were 166 Formula 455 HO's built with manual transmissions and 155 built with automatic transmissions. It is the rarest of the 71 Firebirds. I have one of the automatics (along with complete PHS documentation and window sticker showing the car being a 455 HO).

According to the data displayed by yearone.com, there were 7528 Trans Am Coupes produced with 455's. All of these units were equipped with Manual transmissions. The rarest of the group is the 1976 Limited Edition 455 with T-tops.
