To change the ignition coils on a 1999 Chrysler LHS, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then remove the engine cover if applicable. I'm not a mechanic / technician but on the 1999 Ford Expedition I believe the 4.6 liter was still using the EDIS ( Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ) which uses ( 2 ) coil packs with spark plug wires , where the 5.4 liter has always used the Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system with ( 8 ) individual coils

Beneath the coils. There are 8 coils. 4 on each side. Remove the coils (gently), then remove the plus.

remove the ignition coils on the intake and they are underneath it. your vehicle has distributorless ignition, therfore there aren't any spark plug wires, instead it has individual ignition coils with the spark plugs directly underneath them.
You can change the ignition cylinder on your 1999 Mercury Mystique by removing the retaining ring at the top of the ignition cylinder. The ignition cylinder will slide out. Remove the wiring harness.
