What would cause the temperature control to not work on a Taurus - Sable?

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus that would only blow cold air, I replaced the thermostat and no heat. We flushed the system from a ford dealer no heat. Had to replace the heater core plenty of heat now. Other possibilities are: * a malfunctioning temperature blend door * Plugged heater core See "Related Questions" below for more

How do you troubleshoot a heater on a 1999 Ford Taurus?

See "Related Questions" below for much more about trouble-shooting Taurus / Sable heater problemsAnswerSounds like you have a heater not getting hot, right? There is only two possibilities. One that there is a coolant problem, and the others is a temp blend door problem.First check the coolant in the coolant jug. Is it full? Is it rusty? The most common thing that goes wrong with these cars, is severe rust in the cooling system which clogs up the heater core, and eats the impellers off the water pump. This causes no coolant flow through the heater core and very little flow in the cooling system in general.Unfortunately, if this is the case, you will not be able to flush the heater core effectively. The passages are just too small. The heater core will have to be replaced. The water pump will probably be needed as well, since the impellers are probably just about gone. The other most common thing is a warped temperature stratification / blend door in the heater case. This door can bind up with the blend door and cause either no heat or no AC, depending on what position the door is stuck in. This is such a problem that Ford designed a new door design. The part number of the new stratification door is 3F1Z-19D842-AA. These are the two biggest issues with that car. Hope this helps.ANSWERReplacing the blend door is an involved process with the Ford door. A less expensive and easier alternative is the HeaterTreater Taurus blend door kit. The plastic door is replaced with metal that will outlast the Taurus. Check heatertreater.net for diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix.

Why is the Heater stuck on high temp on a 2001 mercury sable?

This sounds like a temperature blend door problem - with the door stuck in the heat position. See "Related Questions" below for information on Taurus/Sable blend door actuator motors and blend doors

What is a bender actuator for a Ford F-150 truck?

Are you sure its not a "blend door" actuator? Belnd door actuators are part of the HVAC system and control the hot/coldair flaps.

Where is the heater control valve located on a Taurus - Sable?

There is not a valve that regulates the flow of coolant through the heater core. The Taurus/Sables never had one like that.Coolant flows through the heater core at all times, no matter the temperature setting.Temperature adjustments are made by controlling how much air flows through the always hot heater core, by the opening and closing of a damper-type door inside the ductwork. This temperature blend door is controlled by:1986-about 1995 - A stiff wire cable from the dash control to the door1996 and newer - a small electric actuator motor that positions the temperature blend door inside the ductwork.NOTE: this parts has a high failure rate, but is an easy do-it-yourself repair. For a very comprehensive listing listing of various problems that can happen with the heating system on Taurus/Sables, check out the various "Related Questions" below.AnswerThe Taurus does not have a heater control valve. No control valve is needed as the engine coolant flows through the heater core all the time.Temperature adjustment is done with a wire cable from the front control knob / slide control to a door inside the ductwork. This door controls the flow of the air through the heatercore - the more air moving through the core, the hotter the air being blown into the car. With the total redesign of the Taurus/Sables in 1996, Ford changed from cable connections to a small electric actuator motor to control the temperature blend door. The Taurus does not have a heater control valve.
