cv with a slip joint
There can be several things that will cause your 1994 Jeep grand Cherokee to make a loud clanking noise when you drive it. The most common cause is a bad u-joint.
I had a 97 Grand Cherokee, and I found someplace on the internet(sorry I don't remember who) that had the oem replacements. The ones found locally would have worked, but the oem's pivoted on a ball joint. Then it was simply a matter of swapping them out.Four screws each, and it was done. Hope that helps.
Remove old ball joint. Reverse procedure to install new ball joint.
To change the U-joint on a 1997 Grand Cherokee Laredo, first lift and secure the vehicle, then remove the driveshaft by unbolting it from the differential and the transmission. Next, use a U-joint press or a hammer to remove the old U-joint from the driveshaft yoke. Install the new U-joint by pressing it into place, ensuring that it’s properly aligned, and then reassemble the driveshaft by bolting it back into position. Finally, check for proper rotation and alignment before lowering the vehicle.
don't repalce just the cv joint. You should purchase a rebuilt axle, it will be cheaper and easier. You should be able to get a repair manual from you local library. This should be a fairly straight forward job.
u joint on drive shafts
I just replaced the trunk struts on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have no mechanical experience and i replaced them myself, so its a pretty easy fix. On the top of your trunk there will be a piece held in my two bolts. Just remove these bolts and the piece should come right off. on the side of your trunk should be the other piece. There will be a little spring attached to your ball joint that is easily removed with a flat head screw driver. Once this spring is removed you should be able to pull the par away from the ball joint and wallah. Replace just like you took off.
I just replaced a cv joint on a 1995 grand Cherokee the part cost me about 150 bucks.Im not sure but I would think the 97 would have the same part number
I think you mean axle shaft joint. A crunching noise, especially when turning corners suggests bad axle shaft joints.
Possible failed U joint or cv joint at the left front wheel
