I had similar problem. After paying $40 for a "diagnosis" by a local shop, was told the cluster is bad. Googled and found a UK forum with thousands complaining about Ford Focus clusters. The problem seemed to be the same for all owners, and it's corroded PCB (printed circuit board). Did what that forum suggested. It worked!!!
How to fix it:
1. Buy a electronic contact cleaner ($5) from pepboy
2. Disconnect battery
3. Take out the instrument cluster. Need to disconnect two cables. Took a couple of minutes to disconnect the second, the black thing is the key. Needs loosen 7 bolts first, then loosen additional 5 to expose the PCB.
4. Spray PCB the hell of it.
5. Bring in home and dry overnight
6. Re-install cluster
7. Re-connect batery cable.
8. Done!
Replace resistors on Instrument cluster circuit board. $1.00 @ Radioshack and about an hour of your time...
well i bought new lights for my instrument cluster thinking it would fix the problem but there still dim
Generally, you need to remove the cluster and once you do you will be able to get at the individual bulbs in the back of the instrument cluster. Common tools are all that I have ever used, but disconnect the battery first.
To fix a speedometer light on a Ford Fiesta, first check the vehicle's fuse box for a blown fuse related to the instrument cluster and replace it if necessary. If the fuse is intact, inspect the speedometer bulb by removing the instrument cluster, which may involve unscrewing or unclipping it from the dashboard. If the bulb is burnt out, replace it with a new one, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the cluster. If the issue persists, consider consulting a mechanic for further diagnostics.
You have to replace the instrument cluster in most cases.
Replace the instrument cluster.
It is not repairable, you should replace the instrument cluster.
you have to replace the entire instrument cluster. Get a used one it much cheeper, try car-parts.com
Check fuses
Fuse/ Dimmer Switch/ Illumination switch/ or just a new cluster all on its own. depends on what broke

To fix the light on the instrument cluster of a Mercedes SL 500, first check the vehicle's fuse box for any blown fuses related to the instrument cluster. If the fuses are intact, inspect the bulbs behind the cluster for burnouts or damage and replace them if necessary. Additionally, ensure that the battery is in good condition and that all electrical connections to the cluster are secure. If the issue persists, it may require diagnostic tools to identify deeper electrical or software issues.
