The cost of replacing an EGR valve varies with the make, model and location of the car. An EGR valve for a 1996 Lincoln Town Car is about $160.
No set time...just at failure
Remove the wiring from the top of the EGR then unbolt it at the bottom of the EGR system. You may need to replace the gasket after replacing the EGR itself
You also need to clean the "passages". EGR valve puts exhaust gas back into the engine intake under less than full power situations. When that happens exhaust deposits build up on the walls of the passages. Replacing the EGR valve was only half the repair, you also need to clean it out. There is a tube from under the EGR valve to the exhaust manifold. That is probably blocked.
If you have an egr valve failure why are you replacing th oxygen sensor? Most likely the EGR valve assembly is blocked or partially blocked. Often they build up exhaust deposits on the EGR valve and ports.
Possibly other systems connected to the egr valve are faulty. You may need to have a professional diagnose the problem, rather than replacing parts.

The Zafira 1.8 automatic does not have an EGR Valve. These vehicles had a Z18XE engine, and were not equipped with the EGR Valve as there was no need for one.
You can bypss the EGR by putting a bolt in the vaccum line going to the EGR valve blocking the EGR solenoid or alot of people make a plate replacing the valve with a plate but it will set the check engine light its better to just fix it.
The EGR valve is located on the drivers side of the head, just above the transmission bell housing. Remove the electrical and vacuum connections, then remove the two bolts that hold the EGR valve to the head. Use a NEW gasket when replacing the EGR valve.
The EGR valve sits on the intake manifold behind the carburetor. Two bolts and a vacuum line are all you have to remove. Its a good idea to remove this valve every now and then and clean it
Typically the EGR valve is not the only problem. If you'll examine the exhaust gas passages when you have the EGR valve out of the engine, you'll notice that an older vehicle typically has quite a bit of built up deposits on the inside of the passages. These need to be cleaned at least sufficiently to allow the free flow of exhaust gas.Sometimes the cleaning process can be more time consuming than replacing the EGR valve. And SOMETIMES, you don't even need to replace the EGR valve; the problem can simply be the buildup of deposits.
