The t-stat is located on the front of the engine at the top with 2 hoses coming out of the housing---one large (going to the upper radiator) and one smaller diameter going to a water control valve. Remove both hoses from the housing and check them for cracks etc. The bolts are 13mm. It is easier if you loosen the serpentine belt to make it less likely to cross thread the lower bolt. remove both bolts for the housing and lightly pry the housing away from the engine block. Remove t-stat and clean old gasket off both surfaces. If the replacement t-stat has a small hole in the top the hole goes towards the top of the engine. It is easier to use a little sealer to "hold" the t-stat in place when bolting up the housing. NOTE:If t-stat slips and is not in the groove of the cylinder head when you tighten the housing bolts you have a very very good chance of cracking the housing. If you did not loosen the belt---when you install the lower bolt--pull down on the belt to ensure you do not cross thread the bolt. Install large hose onto housing. When refilling with coolant add coolant to the bottle until the coolant comes out the housing where the smaller hose goes---then put hose on and secure. let car run with heater on hot setting and check for leaks.
If car starts to overheat let car cool down and repeat filling procedure. clean off all spilled coolant---especially off belt
yes.
Yes, but you wouldn't want to do that, 90 is renix, and it has the older style radiator with the reservoir to fill it, where as your 98 has a filler cap, which eliminates air bubbles that occur from the reservoir.
Any mid 90's Jeep has the same pattern.
My 89 jeep Cherokee surges at idle and sometimes stalls but runs fine once you are going what could cause this?
Well I have a '99 Jeep NDN Classic & I Love...and I love it....and to give you the skinny on it, I had the head gasket blown on cylinders 4 & 5, the initial coast was 870 done by a pro..then when the head came back from the machine shop..add 300 bucks...and total...hope this helps you out! just called in today for my 89 jeep it was 89.99 for mine at knects
There are three connections on the AX-15 if those connections are available one 90 jeep then go ahead and swap.
The manual transmission in a 1994 Cherokee uses 80 W 90 gear oil, not ATF.
the 4.0 six in a 90 jeep Cherokee is not a v6 it is an inline 6. the firing order is 153624
Yes! They are the same parts..... Just make sure your XJ part is from a 90 not a 91. Jeep changed the 91 and up fitment on the lower column shaft...
You could, but 75w140 synthetic is recommended. You could, but 75w140 synthetic is recommended.
I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee with a 1990 Cherokee 4.0 engine in it.. So i wuld have to say yes to your question.. ( i did not know it was from a 90 Cherokee until i had to buy some parts for oil change and none of the filters for a 94 would work.. :-)
the jeep bolt pattern is 5 on 4 1/2. so no they will not fit, but they will fit on early to mid 90's ford rangers and explorers.
