In order to remove the head on a 350 Chevy Motor, Start by rotating crankshaft till mark is at TDC (top dead Center) This will come in handy later, Then drain water out of radiator, and also drain block (usually a plug in the side of the block. I usually remove the thermostat and blow out all the water I can. Usually keeps water out of the cyl bores. Then proceed to removing the alternator or A/c compressor depending on which head you want to remove. This of course means removing the belts first, then remove all other items that will be in the way to get access to the head, like exhaust manifold; ie: either remove header at the head, or at the tail pipe flange, if room will allow removing head and manifold at the same time. Remove bolts from intake manifold, to head, Some may require removal of intake manifold, remove valve cover, Now loosen the rockers bolts first, which takes the pressure off the push rods, & valves, pull them one at a time and mark or number them (like with tape, so they go back in the same places. Then loosen all the head bolts, When all bolts are removed, pry the head loose, Usually not much effort required. Strain and lift the head off. Repair or replace head. Assembly basically the Reverse order except will put push rods back in place after head torqued to spec's. Then adjust rockers as needed. Ie: either hydraulic or solid.
