The manual transmissions are all pretty good. Except if you are 17 years old, then they fail on a regular basis along with all the other components of your Jeep. Shock loading is the culprit. Soften up a bit and all those drivetrain parts will last much longer. The automatics are OK, not the best. As with all automatics, you have a finite service life...maybe 100,000 miles before replacement. Manuals will normally last longer if treated decently.
