If you have a Culligan Super S system and are periodically getting light and dark gray water but no smell what would cause this?

Although unlikely, this could be due to some sediments in your water - a whole house filter could help with that. It is more likely that it could be some residual sulfur/iron buildup from the filter which manages to get past the unit right after the unit backwashes (kind of how a little lint always gets past the clothes dryer lint filter, especially when you pull it out to clean it). I believe the Super S system uses charcoal filtration as the last step so it could theoretically also be some of the charcoal leaching out of the tank after a backwash, etc. Here is some links with more information about the Culligan Super S:
