Most modern GM vehicles have a transponder in the key that prevents the starter from engaging without it. To get a new key you need to get a factory key from your dealer or an aftermarket source, then program the vehicle to accept it. Instructions on programing are generally included with the new key.
First thing for any automobile - check the battery - may be dead.
The engine would start and run but it may not want to move.
To jump-start a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette, first, ensure both vehicles are turned off. Connect the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery, then attach the other end to the positive terminal of the working battery. Next, connect the black (negative) cable to the negative terminal of the working battery and attach the other end to a grounded metal surface on the dead vehicle, away from the battery. Start the working vehicle, let it run for a few minutes, and then attempt to start the Oldsmobile.
I think the negative terminal is under the fuse box to the left; you can barely get to it. However to jump from or to the Silhouette, you don't need the negative terminal. To jump the Silhouette, just attach the negative cable to metal, preferably of the engine block. To jump from the Silhouette, attach the negative cable to the large bolt about 10 inches to the right of the battery.
start with replacing the switch first. check with your local junkyard first. they usually have these switches that are still good for cheap. a new motor is around 100 .
try to start it turn switch off and back on and leave the switch on for 10 mins. try to start again and turn the switch off and back on for another 10 mins.try to start again turn the switch off and back on for another 10 mins.this should reset the computer and it should start
Its an Oldsmobile
Crankshaft position sensor has failed.... it works fine when cold but as soon as the engine and wiring warms up... it fails to signal properly and kills the motor.... 16-40 bucks at the parts store
There are three Oldsmobile model's that start with the letter A.Alero,Aurora, and the Achieva.
my 2000 oldsmobile did this after it got an antifreeze hose behind the motor and come find out ... the mechanic accidently broke off the VACCUM hose that goes from the top front of the motor to a couple connection areas.
