OPTION A: put key in ignition, it MUST BE IN RUN POSITION, (i know you said wont turn, but this is how it has to be) locate the stake pin under the column (directly under the ignition lock, sometimes there is even a hole all the way through the plastic to the stake pin and no disassembly required), (its a little hole) put a paper clip or scribe in there until you feel the spring tension, wiggle the lock mechanism out. on that model you have to build the lock to fit the key tumblers BECAUSE OF THE MICROCHIP in the key, DO THIS FIRST. place the lock back in, you will hear a click (again must be in run position)
OPTION B: if you cant get it into the run position, you HAVE TO DRILL THE LOCK OUT. OR DISASSEMBLE THE ENTIRE IGNITION AND DRILL THE STAKE PIN IN THE BOTTON OF THE LOCK. again, the lock MUST be in run position to remove the lock mechanism.
good luck, its a nightmare, done several of them.
Remove the plastic covering on the steering column. The ignition switch is the box that the ignition cylinder runs into. It's basically easy with only removing a couple of bolts to replace. The only trick is to be very careful actually pulling the box off the column. Make sure the key is in power off position. wiggle the box off, when putting the ignition cylinder into the new ignition switch you don't want to turn the key. Leave it in the off position. Then watch the rod in the rear of the new ignition switch as it goes back into the column. I have seen people have to turn the key in the ignition cylinder while pushing gently into the ignition switch. But beware it can turn into a real nightmare. If you use a bran new ignition cylinder, it will state all over do not turn the cylinder until it's installed.
You have to remove the coils, no trick there.

Is this a trick question? Wheels are good...... Windshield; engine; steering wheel; ignition switch! Seat belts (may be the answer you're looking for.....) A gas tank? Not sure what you're getting at, but the list goes on and on and on........
If you don't mind me asking... Why are you changing the door switch ? If it's sticking or the interior lights are staying on. Try this trick. Spray WD-40 on all door locks including the rear door hatch. This will fix the problem.
I am trying to remove the ignition switch of a 1991 camry...Someone tried to steal the car and damaged the keyway...I purchased a new ignition switch but is having a difficult time removing the old cylinder...Is there a "trick" to this task? I 'd appreciate any assistance...Thanks Several tricks--- first remove trim around instruments---then pop off trim ring around ignition switch---unfasten upper and lower steering column covers--remove upper--get about 12 in of 1/8 brass rod---bend a 90 angle about 1/8 long on one end.---unfasten light ring and move out of the way---put key in ignition and turn to ACC position--the release button is about 2in in where switch says LOCK--slide tool in and use the tool to depress the pin (which you cant see) the lock should pop out---key must be in new cyl in ACC position to put new one in---for this they charge $150 If the key doesnt work you have to drill out cylinder and use screwdriver to turn too ACC position.
You should try to to replace you distributor cap and rotor, because over time it tends to wear off. Plus you should check the ignition coil. this should do the trick.
You must be in neutral to switch it into 4hi
switch it on and off that shud do the trick doll
Yes there is trick
If YOU can start it with a screwdriver, so can anyone else........there goes your ride. And if the police see the screwdriver trick, you may be detained for awhile.......
Here's an oscilloscope that should do the trick: http://www.picoauto.com/automotive-oscilloscope.html .
