My 2001 Ford Taurus runs fine until slowing to stop at a stop light or stop sign It starts to sputter and jerk like it's going to die but is fine after moving again until the next stop What can it be?

Number of issues - Timing, plus/injectors need a clean etc. Might be worth dropping by a garage that can put your car on their test machine and check the electrics and firing. It could also be gear issue where the vehicle is to high a gear dropping the revs to low on stopping

When in park or neutral if I rev my Ford Taurus engine to 4000rpms it starts to sputter What could cause this?

This is by design, as the engine is not under load. the engine computer shuts off the fuel injectors, there is no hysteresis so the injectors turn back on quickly once below 4000rpm, and the cycle repeats. This also happens when the speedometer maxes out, in my case, 180kM/h, the fuel injectors shut off.
