The MASS Air Flow sensor can certainly cause a problem if it's not functioning properly, but you should connect it, then run engine diagnostics to see what the COMPUTER says is wrong. Here are a couple prices for a MAF sensor for a 92 Lincoln Town Car, don't know if it's the same model as yours. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=473&ptset=A&searchfor=Air+Flow+Meter%2fMass+Air+Sensor

throttle posistion sensor or vacuum leak
If a car starts and idles but does not accelerate can be numerous problems such as a malfunctioning throttle position sensor, fuel regulator, Manifold Airflow sensor or vacuum leak. A diagnostics test will reveal what is malfunctioning and needs to be repaired.
Most likely its not your mass air flow sensor its gonna be your tp sensor (throttle position) or your down stream oxygen sensor because a MAF sensor controls your ITS or Ideal temp sensor witch can affect your accel and your idle when under a load but when its at rest or idle it will be affected by a tp sensor of O2 sensor they call the O2 sensor the spark plug that never gets changed..

Did they replace the MAP sensor? If not, good chance there's your problem.
id change the coolant temp sensor
I had the same problem on my 98 Mazda 626 and the O2 sensor was faulty.....
I changed my tps sensor on my 2001 Dakota and it solved this problem.
Not adjustable. Sounds like the throttle position sensor.
Is the gas milieage ok, check bad grounds Mine has a bad O2 sensor, does the same thing. Does It take gas when you first start it and try to take off?
Throttle linkage could be in a bind or TPS is defective. (throttle Position sensor)
