One of them is behind the instrument cluster and the other is on the side of the transmission. Ray
It is possible for the check engine light to come on in a Pontiac Transport when using ethanol gasoline because it burns hotter than other gasoline. The check engine light might also come on if the oxygen sensor is bad.

If external cable or mechanicalPut shifter into "Neutral" position and probably shorten throw to have transmission physically shift to Neutral - that should align all other positions If internal - bring to transmission shop
What about it? Chevy will interchange regardless of the years. Wiring and plumbing is going to vary but it will bolt to the transmission. Buick, Olds, Pontiac will interchange with each other with the same issues. They will not bolt up to a chevy transmission unless you have a duel pattern transmission that has both bolt patterns on it.
try looking for the overide switch or auto lights and turn the other direction
I put a 1990 transmission in my 89 Lincoln town car but the gear was different on went back for park and the other went forward. So we changed the gears inside the transmission but now it slips and will not get passing gear when stomped. Is the transmission bad?
Yes, many have swapped them into Grand Prix's and Lemans' of the same year. You will need the motor mounts for the Pontiac V8, and the transmission must match the Pontiac bellhousing (it is not the same as the Chevy pattern). Other minor issues may creep up such as throttle linkage, wiring (starter is on the opposite side), exhaust (I believe the Pontiac manifolds will clear the frame), but the are not insurmountable.

A very likely possibility other than problems within the transmission itself would be the transmission mount. This is a rubber bushing in a metal bracket that supports the transmission by connecting it to the frame. When the bushing becomes worn it allows the transmission to move and it is very noticeable because the hard shifting of an automatic transmission is masked or absorbed by this bushing. Hope that helps, good luck!
