some possible causes:
If you lowered the car or had suspension/strut work done you can be rubbing The body in the boot?
If it happens only when turning corners, this is likely to come from the differential. A ball bearing problem would make noise all the time.
If it is in the rear end you need to change the third member oil.
The person you have locked in the trunk is car sick but kind enough to warn you before puking on the carpet.
Have your mechanic check the rear bearings for the grinding noise. If the noise is like a rumble strip then the torque converter may be bad. Mark VIII are know for bad torque converters.
#1 noise....loose exhaust
There are many reasons as to what may cause a roaring noise in a rear end 1997 Infinity. However, this could be the brake system or needing a new catalytic converter.
ball joint or tierod end
make noise when turn any side
A clanking noise in the rear of a Renault Scenic could mean the rear wheel bearings need to be replaced or greased. A clanking noise in the rear of any vehicle can be a problem with the rear end gears, the drive shaft, or even a lug nut that came loose and is clanking around inside the hubcap.
To differentiate between rear end and transmission failure in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, listen for specific sounds: a grinding or howling noise may indicate rear end issues, while slipping or harsh shifting suggests transmission problems. Additionally, check for fluid leaks; reddish fluid typically points to transmission issues, while a heavier, oily fluid may indicate rear end problems. Finally, observe the vehicle’s behavior: if it struggles to accelerate or shifts erratically, the transmission is likely at fault, whereas vibrations or noise when turning can signal rear end trouble.
Check your rear U-Joint, plus the fluid level in your rear end. Also on my Aerostar, in my brake assembly I found a broken brake spring. If it is the gears in the rear-end you may have to replace. Good luck!
