Although there are several things that can cause this code. The most common on the vortec is a bad distributor cap. When you replace the cap. Do NOT use a cheap cap and always use ac delco plugs in a vortec. They are very picky with ignition.
If you need it timed afterwards you will have to use a scan tool and set it plus or minus 2 degrees of 0 while watching the cam retard on the scan tool.
