This just happenned to me. I was getting a code PO300. It turned out to be the ignition control module. It cost 78.00 at autozone and only took 10 minutes to replace.
Error code P0300 in a 2005 Chevy Cavalier indicates a "Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected." This means that the engine control module has detected misfires occurring in multiple cylinders, which can be caused by various issues such as faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel delivery problems, or vacuum leaks. It's important to diagnose the specific cause to prevent potential engine damage and ensure optimal performance.
Random cylinder misfire
P0300 = random misfire.
The 1989 Chevy Cavalier could be either a 2.0L 4-cylinder or a 2.8L V-6.
Check the air filter.

CLEAN THE INJECTORS. OR HAVE THE INJECTORS CLEANED BY A GM TECH.
What's wrong with my 2003 Chevy Cavalier if the check engine lights on and a friends computer said "misfire cylinder 4 "? It studders also. thanks Dawn
The firing order for a 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier is 1, 3, 4, 2. This is for a 2.2 Liter engine.
I had that happen n I changed my plugs n coil pack...easy to do
