1. full coolant level? no? fill. 2. fans come on around 190-200 degrees? no? replace sensor switch. 3. check for worn/ slipping water pump belt. replace 4. radiator holds pressure? no? have leak/pin hole in radiator fixed. 5. heater puts out hot air? no? thermostat possibly stuck, replace. 6. high mileage? possible water pump failure, disconnect top radiator hose at radiator, start car, water starts pumping out of top hose? no? replace water pump. (Also good test for stuck thermostat, if stuck, valve to radiator is shut off = no flow to radiator) 7. If not any of above, check for oil in water or water in oil (in oil it will make oil look kinda milky brown)this is possibe blown head gasket from overheating, take to mechanic for diagonstic of exhaust gasses in coolant. entire powertrain has to be dropped from under car to get to timing cover in order to remove head to replace gasket. VERY EXPENSIVE. consider selling car.
