I have the same car and this happens to me if you take your right hand and pull the lever and bang the hood with your left near the windshield the top of the hood it might pop loose if you think your cable is broken then the lever you pull on look behind it and find the cable and pull it with a pair of plyers.

Make sure that they have not become disconnected. This applied to a 1990 Olds that I had trouble with. a bit.
