I had the same problem and soon discovered that I was out of Transmission Fluid. The way I discovered this of course was the stream of fluid I left right before this happened. I looked beneath the vehicle to find the entire underside covered in transmission fluid, and discored it had been leaking from the Accumulator Piston Cover on the front passenger side of the transmission housing. It is a small round black plastic circle with an indentation in the center which you can see clearly if you cut your wheels to the left and look behind the passenger side front tire at the transmission housing. I ordered a new cover from my local Isuzu service center, $23.00 and some change shipping and part, and you use a snap ring tool, inner type, to remove the old one and snap the new one in place. Then you can use 3/8 inch outer diameter tubing with a funnel held high and pour the transmission fluid into the fill hole on the bottom of the tranny pan until it runs out of the overfill hole up top. Then start the motor and let it get to idle temp, and the tranny fluid will start to circulate and you can continue filling the tranny. According to Oreilly's Auto Parts a fresh fill takes 9 quarts of Dexron III ATF.

Your gear linkage is offset!! Or you are on a steep down hill
It could be the transmission, it could be some parts under the vehicle that rub only when travelling forward.
There could be several reasons why a car would sputter and shut off. The car might be out of gas, dead battery, bad starter, alternator problems or other issues. It is best to have it checked out by a licensed mechanic.
Engine idle too high.
If a car sputters when it accelerates there may be a problem with the ignition. Another option is that the timing belt is malfunctioning.
Because it's an Audi and they suck!
Try disconnection your MAF ( mass airflow sensor ) and if it doesn't sputter when you accelarate, it means your sensor is gonzo.
A reversible process is one which can be reversed and causes no changes in the system or surroundings. For a process in equilibrium, the rate of the forward process equals the rate of the reverse process (which can be, but is not necessarily equal to zero).
will the transmission causes my 1999 ford expedition to bog down & sputter when accelerating the 4.6liter engine.
Yes, that and dozens of other causes.Yes, that and dozens of other causes.
Most common cause would be the plus wires. Dampness causes them to arc and the cylinder that the wire is arcing on won't fire causing a miss/sputter.
