What do you do if a 1992 Buick LeSabre Security Light came on and you can't start the car?
Wait 3 minutes until the security light goes off, the try it again. It should fire right up! It's a bit inconvenient, but if it's the worst problem you get from a 17 yr old car, be thankful for it. TAke it ot the dealer as they have check out charts. If it has the MAT security system installed, there is a "valet" switch (that may or may not be installed in your particular vehicle). On my 1992 LeSabre, it was a brown and gray wire pair plugged into the last 2 pins on the wiring block. Turn the ignition switch to "Run" - and connect the two wires (or turn on the valet switch if you can find it). If you don't have a valet switch, or there are no wires attached to the pins, you may have to get creative and use a wire to connect the two pins. This disables the starter interlock feature. The red LED should turn on and stay on solid, and your car should start. At least that's how my problem was solved. Best of luck! When my 1994 LaSabre had a problem recognizing the chip in the key (due to the contacts in the lock not working), I managed to bypass the system by locating the two wires (clear tube with two smaller wires in it exiting the steerin column, unlike any other wiring), cutting the cable, and soldering a resistor across the two wires that go to the hidden module thet in turn controlls the starter and sends a signal to the engine computer. Use a resistor of the same resistamce value as in one of the keys for the car (measure resistors with a digital meter). There are a dozen or so values used. You loose the extra protection of the chip, but the fix is low cost.

When the security light is on the starter will not engage. You must wait a few minutes for the light to turn off before attempting to start car again, this is to help prevent theft. Ensure the contacts on the black chip on the key are clean and that the chip is centered in the key.

Ensure the resistor on key is centered (in key) and when you try to start car make sure "security" light is off. If it goes on do not try starting car, just wait for it to go off before re-starting.

Hello. I have a 1998 lesabre and it would not start either. At first I thought it was a paskey issue but the security light was not on. As I was looking under the dash for the BCM module I accidently moved the ingnition cylindr and noticed the key was not in it. I turn the cylinder as to start the car and of course it did not even ingage the starter but, the security light did come on telling me the pas key system was working.I do not know why the cylinder turns without the key. Maybe somebody broke it. The car does have 200000 miles. The next time it did not start I simply removed the key turned the cylinder, reinserted the key and it started. The problem is the ignition switch in the steering colume when the starter does not ingage and the security light is off.

I found that a wire to the ignition switch was broken where you put your key in . this did not let the chip be read . and the security kept flashing.and car would not even start. after repairing the wires it started up perfect. hope this helps

My 2003 Buick Century also did that today and I couldn't start my car. Apparently the key for the ignition has been damaged somehow and won't let the car start. Try using your extra key to see if that helps.
