You need to remove the headlight assembly. Pop the hood. There are four bolts. Two are right up front on the sill, and very easy to get to. One is down behind at the right and very hard to see. You'll need a T30 torx screwdriver with at least a 6" blade. The fourth one is the aiming screw, so take care with that, as you'll need to put it back close to where it was. The pros would turn the working headlight on, and mark the throw on the wall to make this easier. DON'T remove the two back bolts. They only need to be loosened. Once the back bolts are loose and the front ones are off, you can slide the whole assembly forward. You can disconnect the electrical at that point, and pull the whole unit all the way out, or you can reach around and do it in place. I recommend the former... Once you have access, there is a small clip holding the back access hatch to the light assembly. Open that up and take it off. Pull the electrical connector off the lamp you're replacing and push in-and-over the metal clip holding the light. The lamp is now free. Pop the new one in (it'll only fit in one orientation) and replace the clip and electrical. CAREFULLY replace the hatch, making sure the seal is tight and correct. Reverse the process. Be careful when sliding the assembly in and out to make sure you don't scratch the bumber paint (or better yet mask it off before you start). That's it. It is a 15-minute job, but you have to have the right tool (T30 screwdriver) and a bit of confidence.

Open the hood and look down at the top of the head light assembly, there should be two round "dials" unscrew these and the headlight should tilt forward and allow access to the bulb replacement port.
I read this also in my owners manual for my '97. But I was able to squeeze my hand in and change the bulb without removing the headlight. I changed both bulbs this way and I do not have small hands. Good luck!
To change the headlight bulb on a 2003 VW Polo you must first remove the rubber cover from the back of the bulb. Pull off the connector and loosen the 2 torque screws to allow the black plastic locking to turn. Turn the locking ring counter-clockwise to remove and replace the bulb.
The headlight adjustment screws on a 2001 Nissan Altima are located on the sides and back of the headlight assembly. They allow for small changes to be made to the position of the beams.
I think what you are referring to is a "blackout" headlight used on military vehicles - mostly during WWII. The headlamp lens was covered in the same camouflage green as the rest of the vehicle, but there would be a horizontal slit to allow just enough light to shine through to help light the road, but not so much as to make the vehicle easy to spot -- particularly from the air. Nighttime bomb raids occurred a lot during WWII.
Yes. You can compare headlight modules at this site: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?Ntt=Headlight and also other auto parts.
The headlights of a 2001 Dodge Caravan are aimed by turning the adjustment screws on the back of the headlight assembly. They allow for vertical and horizontal adjustments.
Remove 2 screws to remove trim under headlight. Remove both mirrors to allow removal of trim under winsdhield. Remove 2 bolts and trim bracket at bottom of headlight holder. Remove 2 bolts at top, that holds trim bracket and top of headlight holder. Pull out the headlight holder. Unplug headlight electrical plug at rear of bulb. Remove headlight from holder by pulling retaining clips free. Install new headlight, but do not touch with bare hands. Install parts in reverse order. However, top bolts holding each mirror should be started first, then bottom bolts, and tighten evenly.
