The Chevy Chevelle 396 Big Block is a classic American muscle car produced by Chevrolet from 1965 to 1972. It features a powerful 396 cubic inch V8 engine, known for its impressive horsepower and torque, which contributed to its popularity during the muscle car era. The Chevelle 396 is celebrated for its performance, distinctive styling, and is often sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Its combination of power and design makes it a quintessential representation of 1960s American automotive culture.
Yep! It will bolt right in. The Chevelle was designed to handle the big block from day one. Externally, the 572 is virtually the same as a 396, it just has a slightly taller deck height because it is based on the 427 truck block. It will be a little taller and wider than a 396, but it will still bolt right in.
No, they made a small block 400 and a big block 402. However, Chevrolet DID call the 402 a "400" in certain applications. They also called the 402 a 396 in 1970 (the 402 is a slightly over bored 396) because of they reputation the 396 had built in the SS396 Chevelle Super Sports.

Yes. A gto is pretty much the same chassis as a chevelle, which was available with a 396, which is the same size and weight as a 454.
No, they did not. The smallest big block Chevy is the 396. They also made a small block and big block 400.

the weight of my 427 Chevy big block. Which is the same as the 396, 454. This is a bare block we are speaking about. the total weight of a bare block Is right at 200 pounds.
everybody has a 350 but not everyone has a 396, the 396 is a lot more expensive to rebuild but the torque from that big block is worth it.
