Look under the dash on the 1996 suburban, and locate the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm. Remove the switch nut, and slide the switch out. Unplug the wires from the switch and install the new switch.
Ive had this problem before. Look on your brake pedal for the brake switch. Its a plunger like switch, its usually the only thing on the brake pedal. If you wiggle it the lights will go off like they should. If that works you need to get a new brake switch. Its pretty easy and cheap to change.
Under the dash, look up above the brake pedal.
The brake light switch is threaded into the master cylinder. Open the hood, look at the brake master cylinder, notice the brake light switch with wires connected. Have new one ready to install when you remove the old one to keep loss of brake fluid to a minimum.
HI, The most obvious is no brake lights, the brake lights might be coming on and off as you press the brake pedal, do you hear the switch as you press the brake pedal? A brake light switch isn't hard to replace but the first thing to look at and check is the fuse, see if that's blown. A brake light bulb may also be bad but you need to look at the fuse first. Good luck. Steve H.
look on top of the brake pedal or on the master cylinder.
Look at the upper end of the brake pedal almost under dash
Look at the bracket where the brake pedal mounts, you can't miss it.
Adjust the brake switch located on either the brake lever itself, or it will be attached underneath the dash. SOunds like your brake switch is off or broken. Look at the brake pedal and there is a switch around it that gets activated by you pushing the pedal - that is what needs to be adjusted or replaced. The brake light switch has probably come loose or broken. Look under the dash near the brake pedal arm. There is a switch attached to a bracket.
The brake light switch on a 1998 Peterbilt 379 is typically a small cylindrical or rectangular component mounted near the brake pedal assembly. It usually has electrical connectors on one end and a plunger that is activated when the brake pedal is pressed. The switch is often black or gray in color and may have a threaded base for easy installation. To locate it, look near the brake pedal linkage under the dashboard.
It should be at the top of your brake pedal it will look like a little push button switch the releases when the pedal is depressed
