when you have two tanks on your vehicle the fuel tank selector valve chooses what tank will send fuel to the engine. both tanks run into the valve
inside the in tank fuel pump.
It is bolted with 2 10mm bolts to the chasis underneathe the drivers side. The only tank selector is in the switch on the dash. It transfer power to each tank to activate the electric fuel pumps for each tank
The fuel tank selector switch can be found on the left side of the dash of a 1984 F-150. This is immediately next to the headlight switch.
The fuel tank selector valve on a 1993 Ford F150 with a 4.9L engine is on the left side frame rail under the driver side floor pan forward of the side fuel tank in-line on the fuel lines. Follow the fuel lines from the side tank forward until you see the selector valve. The valve will have at least three fuel lines and one electric plug with wires plugged into it.
The fuel tank selector valve solenoid on a P30 vehicle is typically located near the fuel tank, often mounted on or near the fuel pump assembly. It is responsible for directing fuel from one tank to another, depending on the selected tank. For specific location details, it's best to consult the vehicle's service manual or a repair guide.
Sends power to the selector causing the door inside the unit to open and close swapping tanks.
tank is built with two fuel drains, 1 normal use, second is reerve. when normal doesn't provide fuel, turn fuel selector valve to reserve position for the last 3/4 of a gallon of fuel in the tank. Look for the gas line coming out of the tank and it will go into fuel selector/cut-off valve. Most m/cs work this way.
What is the question? Questions typically start with Who, What, Where When, Why or How... This is a comment... Thanks!
Is there a rocker switch just to the right of the headlight switch ?
( No ) there should be a selector switch ( or valve ) to use to select which tank you want to use
Here's how I did it: First, disconnect the supply line from the fuel filter. Turn the fuel selector to "ON" and blow into the supply line to force the bad gas back into the tank. Move the selector to "REServe" and repeat. Disconnect and remove the fuel level sending unit from the top of the fuel tank. Insert a garden hose into the fuel tank and start to siphon the bad gas into a container on the ground. While the gas is draining, label and disconnect the various hoses from the fuel tank. When you've siphoned as much as you can, remove the 3 bolts that secure the fuel tank to the hull and remove the tank. Empty the remaining fuel from the tank, rinse if necessary, and allow it to completely dry. Reinstall tank and reconnect hoses and sending unit.
On a 1996 Ford F-250 XL 4x4 with dual fuel tanks, the fuel tank selector valve is typically located on the frame rail, near the rear of the vehicle. It is positioned between the two fuel tanks and is connected to the fuel lines that supply fuel to the engine. Accessing it usually requires lifting the vehicle for better visibility.
