- The easiest way to figure it out is that the serpentine belt basically goes in a circle aurrounding all of the wheels (grooved side in); it will bend back and forth based on the wheel it is wrapping around. Pull it back to fit the smooth side of the belt over a smooth wheel, and forward to fit the grooved side of the belt over a grooved pulley.
