The front calipers on a 99 Dodge Dakota are held on by 2 bolts that are removed from the back side of the caliper. You don't use a socket, you will need an Allen wrench. Not suyre of the size but probably 1/4 to 3/8 inch. timbob
AnswerIt's not an Allen wrench. Its a Torx or star point. The size is T45. AnswerIf it's not torx, then it's a 7MM Allen. Use a bit and ratchet to make removal easier. 3/8 drive bits are available at your local auto parts store. AnswerThey´re right, could be any of those, make sure you tighten them up very good when putting them back up, I lost one and "almost" had to get a full set of things which cost $40 for the calipers to be fitted, luckily I found a place where they saw my sample and sold me 2 more of a Grand Cherokee for $10. now I have a spare on my toolbox, hope never need itHaving just replaced the pads and rotors, I can confirm that the bolts are in fact T45. Get it on a 3/8" or 1/2" socket, the amount of torque and the position of the bolts would make a hand held driver very difficult.
