I'VE HAD CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE W/GM 60 DEGREE ENGINES,NEVER SEEN A BAD HEAD GAKET,W/O BUSTED HEAD. THE PROBLEM STARTS W/THE CHEAP PLASTIC-FRAMED IN/MAN GASKETS, AND SNOW-BALLS. GM STARTED SENDING [RECALL NOTICES? I DON'T REMEMBER THE CORRECT TERM] IN THE MID 90'S,SHORTLY AFTER THEY BEGAN USING THE PLASTIC GARBAGE! FEL-PRO AND OTHER AFTERMARKET COMPANIES MAKE A "PROBLEM-SOLVER"GASKET,ON A STEEL FRAME,W/WIDER,HEAVIER SEALING SURFACES THAT ALSO COMPENSATE FOR SOME IMPERFECTIONS ON HEAD&MAN. THE HEAD GASKETS,IN MY EXPERIENCE[NO RACING OR PERFORMANCE WORK],ARE SIMPLY A CASUALTY OF PLANNED OBSOLESENCE. I'VE PERSONALLY SEEN ONE OF THESE NOTICES FOR A '97 LUMINA, AN 11 YEAR IGNORANCE?
head gaskets blow and intake manifold gaskets break

All malibus and impalas have head gasket problems due to dexcool crap. If you replace your head gaskets or gasket use the green prestone!!! tried tested and true. Synthetic antifreeze is a waste of lots of money. Never have i done so many head gaskets in the last few years. 100,000 all youre gonna get out of those GM disposable cars.
Normally it is caused by the engine overheating. It may also be a defect in the gasket or a warped head. Some 3800 GM engines were notorious for blowing head gaskets. Check with a GM dealer as there may be a recall and you can get this repaired for free.
1 gm = 1000 milligrams therefore 3.1 gm = 3100 milligrams
Yes. It's difficult to go wrong with a GM 90 degree V engine, although gaskets tend to be their weak spot.

There are 3 coils on all 3100 gm
1997 3100 V6 GM Firing order Answer1-6-5-4-3-2
The 3.8 GM V6 is prone to blown intake gaskets much more than blown head gaskets. The blown intake gasket causes a loss of coolant which in turn causes overheating and a blown head gasket. The problem exists with most 2000 to 2003 vehicles equipped with the 3.8 Liter V6. There were defects in the upper intake manifold gasket, throttle body nuts, and the throttle body gasket.
Gm Dex Cool or equivalent. The red color antifreeze.
there isn't one unless you put in a aftermarket one
