The Ford Ranger 4.0 liter V6 engine ( OHV and SOHC ) has always had 5W-30 as the PREFERRED engine oil
But , for example , the 2008 Ford Ranger Owner Guide shows ( 5W-20 engine oil is used in the 2.3 liter four cylinder engine and the 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine )
You should use Polaris ps-4 synthetic oil for year round use. l
